Lactobacillus lactis is a long bacterium, with a width of no more than 2 μm and an indeterminate length, usually in the form of filaments that are curled and intertwined, singly or in pairs when young. Gram staining was positive, no motility, no spores were produced, and metachromatic granules were seen in the bacteria by methylene blue staining.
